Safeguarding unborn babies
Refer to the South West Child Protection Procedures (SWCPP) chapter Pre-birth (safeguarding unborn babies) for full information on how to work together with families to safeguard unborn babies in families who may have identified vulnerability and risk indicators. The chapter provides an agreed process between Health agencies, Children’s Social Care and other agencies working with the mother and her family on the planning, assessment and actions required to safeguard the unborn baby.
To compliment the SWCPP chapter Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership have produced a toolkit with local supplementary information. Click on the image below or select this link. The toolkit includes templates for the Discharge Planning Meeting Agenda and the Safeguarding Birth Plan – see page 2 of the toolkit. The Somerset pre-birth planning toolkit should always be used in conjunction with the SWCPP chapter.
An online training package “Improving Multi-Agency Pre-Birth Planning” has been developed for practitioners in Somerset and is available free of charge. For more details please consult the training page.
